Name: Javancy Jones
College: Jackson State
Position: Linebacker
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 245

Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?

Javancy: Aggressive, Relentless, Savagery.

Q: How are you going to train/prepare this offseason in preparation for the draft or other pro opportunities?

Javancy: By staying focused on the NFL. My team has me eating right and training hard. I do a mix of weights, speed, yoga, ballet, boxing, and more weight training.

Q: If you could compare yourself to one current or former NFL player who would it be and why?

Javancy: Khalil Mack because of his versatility. Like me, he played DE, ILB, OLB and still excels wherever the coaches need him. Similarly, we both got all conference awards at two different positions, as I was first team DE and second team LB.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?

Javancy: I look at a team’s tendencies on each down as far as run vs pass based on the yardage needed. That helps me apply it to game situations. I also like to look at what types of plays they run out of different formations so I will have a good idea of what to expect when I see a certain formation. I look for the tendencies of the opposing offensive lineman and running backs based on specific formations. I like to study their blocking styles so I can easily counter their moves and get to the ball.

Q: What separates you from other players at your position?

Javancy: I play at two speeds 0 and 100. My effort separates me. I play with a chip on my shoulder and feel like I represent the entire HBCU community of athletes that get overlooked because we are not from a Power 5 conference. I’m here to let everyone know we belong.

Q: What kind of abilities would you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

Javancy: My communication on and off the field. I am one of the first to pat myself on the back because it keeps me going, but I am also the first to congratulate my teammates on the field and help with the playbook off the field. As one of the team leaders in college, I made it a point to get to know my teammates on a personal level because it makes it that much easier to have each other’s backs on the field when you have each other’s backs off the field.

Q: What is your final pitch/sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

Javancy: You are getting a work horse. I pride myself on making plays and getting better. I do whatever is necessary to make the team better, whether that is playing DE or LB or even special teams. I bring that type of work ethic and commitment to everything I do. You won’t have any off the field issues with me. I play for my mom and my daughter and will not do anything to embarrass my family or my team.
