Name: Chad Stoterau
College: Northern State
Position: Defensive Line
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 290
Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?
Chad: Decisive, disruptive, Motor.
Q: How are you going to train/prepare this offseason in preparation for the draft or other pro opportunities?
Chad: I am currently training at a D1 Sports Training facility in Sioux Falls. I have an experienced trainer working with me to continue training in explosive movements that will help me perform at an elite level in the regional combine and pro day; that will also translate onto the field. Along with that, I am also seeing a nutritionist that is guiding my diet to give my body the best chance to continue to build lean muscle.
Q: If you could compare yourself to one current or former NFL player who would it be and why?
Chad: Buffalo Bills great Phil Hanson. He came to speak to Northern State during fall camp to our team. I felt connected to him because of our similar backgrounds growing up in a small town in the Midwest on his family farm. We have a very similar style of play being a blue collar worker competing with high intensity, professionalism, modesty, and overall gritty play. Besides being inspiring, he gave some great advice. He talked about setting offensive linemen up by giving them certain looks, then later on in the game having a counter off of them to get wins and make plays.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?
Chad: While studying film, I look at each individual offensive lineman and determine their strengths and weaknesses. I then come up with a plan on how I can exploit their weaknesses within our defensive scheme to be as disruptive as I can at the point of attack. The next thing I look for when watching film is any tendency and rules that the offensive linemen show. I then can use the information that I gathered to anticipate what the offensive linemen are going to do and where they are going to go based their own body positioning and how they react to different techniques in front of them.
Q: What separates you from other players at your position?
Chad: The biggest things that separate me from others at my position is my ability to be decisive and adaptive. When I am in the trenches I have the ability to adjust and make quick decisions in a split second to keep myself in the right position to win and make plays within the defensive scheme. My ability to adapt and always finding a way to win in the trenches separates me from others.
Q: What kind of abilities would you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
Chad: My character will stand out both on and off the field. I am the type of guy that does things the right way even when nobody’s watching. I will not water path anything. I am always giving maximum effort to be the best player, teammate, and person that I can be. I am very involved in the community helping out and volunteering my time.
Q: What is your final pitch/sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
Chad: My final pitch is that I am a smart player and a student of the game that will continue to learn and never stop improving. I will compete and will rise up to any occasion; and do anything to make the team better and give my gifts to the team. On and off the field I’m the type of guy to give everything I got to be the best player and person that I can be.
