CJ Thompson: 2018 Draft Prospect Interview
Name: CJ Thompson
School: Wilmington College
Position: Linebacker/Strong Safety
Q: What were some of your goals heading into your final collegiate season?
I just wanted to win at Wilmington, it was something we struggled with very often. Personally, I wanted to be All-Conference, which I accomplished, but even bigger than that, I wanted to set an example for players coming in and show them how to prepare, how to lift and train, and having that mentality to always improve.
Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?
Physical, fast, and instinctive.
Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?
Currently working out with trainer Cliff Brown working on getting faster and improving my footwork to the next level.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?
Monday is 1st down by distances and first down blocking schemes. Tuesday is second down by distance and second down blocking schemes. Wednesday is money down by distance and blocking schemes, Thursday and Friday I watch each and every play against each defense and figure out what they will try to attack us with. Knowing is half the battle, you can’t react at this level, you need to know.
Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?
Knowledge of the game, I’ve been studying this game since I was 4 years old the preparation is the funnest part besides the game itself.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
Passion. I am passionate about the game as well as the community. I want to be on this platform to play the game I love and to reach as many people as possible and let them know that their dreams are in reach if the work ethic is there.
Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
All I need is one opportunity to show teams what I can do. That team that takes the chance on me, I’ll give you everything that I have and my eternal loyalty for changing my life as well as my family.
