Urston Smith: 2018 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Urston Smith
School: Grand Valley State
Position: Wide Receiver
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 220

Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?

Fast, physical, mental.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

I’ll be training at total sports performance in Wixom, MI for my pro day and also leading up to the draft as well.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?

I’m looking for tendencies! I want to know what both corners and the safeties are going to be doing even before the play starts. I’m looking for strengths and weaknesses as well. If I can manipulate a DB’s weaknesses, it’ll make it easier for me and it’ll frustrate them.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

I feel like a lot of receivers don’t like being touched by DB’s and I love being physical and playing hands on. I feel like I am really good at getting open and catching the ball and my size and speed has a lot to do with that.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

I’ll bring some energy, that’s for sure. I’m not always going to yell and hype you up, but you better believe I’m going to give you all I have every play. I can be a leader and I will lead as best as I can. I will try to make other players better and I expect the same from them.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

I am the type of football player you want on your team. I am reliable, I take instruction, I try to make others better around me, I’m a winner, a team player, and I’ll give you everything I have on that field. I can do more than play wide receiver, I can also play special teams. I’m fast, physical, I run good routes, have great hands, and I still want to get better. Always hungry for more.
