Tyler Zilen: 2018 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Tyler Zilen
School: Millersville University
Position: Tight End/Fullback
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 245

Q: What were some of your goals heading into your final collegiate season?

My main goal for my Senior season was to leave it all out on the field every game. I wanted to build off of what I did my Junior season and become more of a complete Tight End and Fullback. I also wanted to help my team as a Senior leader and help us to win more games this season than we have in the past few years.

Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?

Smart, aggressive, technical.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

I will work on my explosiveness for the forty and explosiveness getting out of my stances. I also plan to work on perfecting my route running because I know that can be the difference in a yard of separation and having the ability to be open. The last important thing I will also focus on is my grip, strength, and catching to make sure any ball thrown my way is caught.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?

I like to focus on the Defensive Ends and Linebackers. When looking at Defensive Ends, I like to see what their favorite move is and share what I find with the Offensive Lineman. I also like to see how aggressive they are or if they peek in the back field. The Linebackers, I look to see if their eyes are in the back field because I know if they are, it’ll really give me an opportunity to take advantage of that in our RPO game and play action game.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

One thing that separates me would be my film study. I do like to study a lot of film to see their tendencies. These little things can give me advantage over them every play.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

On the field, I try my best to be a leader in my position group by helping the younger guys learn the offense and what defenses are trying to do. Off the field, in my free time I try my best to help in the community and do community service. Last spring I was able to help at the local SPCA a lot and bring attention and more volunteers to them.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

I have worked every day to get where I am now and will continue to work hard to get where I want to be. I am able to adapt to different positions and different systems like I have my whole career. I love the game of football and I’m willing to do anything to continue to play.
