Name: Trevor Steinke
School: University of South Florida
Position: Wide Receiver
Q: What were some of your goals heading into your final collegiate season?
Some of my goals was to become an All-American, lead the team in receptions and touchdowns, and to also play in an all-star game. Also, to be a great team leader, a great teammate, and most importantly be coachable to everything.
Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?
Competitive, Consistent, and Reliable.
Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?
I started training as soon as I got back to Tampa after my final collegiate game in the Birmingham Bowl after we beat Texas Tech 38-34. Here in Tampa, I’ve been training with Max Proformance, which I have been working with Shane O’Connor. He’s probably by far one of the best speed and strength coaches in the Bay Area here in Tampa. He’s worked with Allen Robinson, Bruce Ellington, Nelson Agholor, and Sammy Watkins. Shane is been helping me out tremendously on my speed, strength, and agility to show every NFL scout what I can do.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?
When I study film, it’s not just film anymore. I’m studying for the coverages, what the defenses are in. If they roll to a different coverage I need to identify that as well. Who I’m going up against and to know my proper depth of my route on every play on every coverage that the defense is in. Looking to see when the defense plays man or zone. Different ways I can attack the Defensive Back and what I can do to get him off his grass in order for me to run my route. Everybody also knows that the 4th Quarter is where games are won, so I always watch the whole game film, but I also watch for different signs where the defensive back is tired and getting sloppy with their technique. So I’m always watching out for that so I can take advantage of that as well.
Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?
I’m always playing in the slot, but I can also play outside receiver as well. I also return kicks and punts. I always work harder than everyone else with whatever I do because I come from nothing. So every time I’m on the field, every rep is important to me, especially going through individual drills. I am so passionate about this game, I’m willing to give it everything that I have.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
I play to win and take advantage of every opportunity I have. I have great character and perseverance when it comes to the game of football. I carry myself well off the field because I don’t have time to get in trouble or screw up my future because this is something that I want and love. I have great speed, quickness, and agility that will help me stand out on a team. Most importantly, what has kept me on the field for the whole game and in the game of football is my football IQ. When you have a high IQ for football and understand everything such as the alignment, assignment, coverage, the play, what to do during the play, you’re always going to be playing the game for a while and that is what I bring to the table.
Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
I am just a hungry kid from the Tampa Bay Area that wants an opportunity. If you google me, I have an underdog story. Everything I have been through with football and with people passing away in my life, it only makes me even more hungrier and passionate about this game. I’ve been working so hard for this dream I forgot when I was tired. I put in so much time, effort, blood, sweat, and tears. Just take me and give me the opportunity and I promise you I won’t ever disappoint you at all. I love this game so much and I want to play at the highest level.
