Terry Swanson: 2018 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Terry Swanson
School: University of Toledo
Position: Running Back
Height: 5’9″
Weight: 208

Q: What were some of your goals heading into your final collegiate season?

My goals were to win a Conference Championship, be a 1200 yds + rusher, and grade out in every game that I play in.

Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?

Slasher, Competitor, Versatile.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

I will train to push my body and mind to another level. I will work on all aspects of my game. Speed training, lifting, conditioning, and position work. I’m a firm believer that you can get better everyday in someway. So, I will work on all parts of my game.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?

When I study film, I look for tendencies. What defenses they like to run in certain situations. What do they like to run on 1st down and 2nd down. What blitzes do they like and who are their blitzers they like to send. What is their base coverage and try to pick apart the mind of the Defensive Coordinator and why they run that base coverage. I like to look at personnel in how they rotate and who gets tired quick or as the game goes along. Who is their general on defense who makes the calls and makes sure everybody is in position.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

I believe what separates me from other backs is, I am a complete back. Running the ball, I can lower my shoulder to deliver a hit or I can make you miss depending on the situation. I know how to read my line’s blocks and be patient and burst while protecting the football. In the pass game, I know I am a mismatch. I can run routes crisp and catch the ball. You can put me in different places other than RB to get a mismatch. Also, in the pass game I can block. I know where the blitzes are coming from and I have good eye discipline in reading the Safeties and how they rotate. I meet the Linebacker, stay inside and shoot my hands inside.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

Well for on and off the field, I’m a leader. I just don’t talk about it, but carry myself that way all the time. I’m a winner, I know what it takes to help put my team in situations to win, that’s been my whole career in football in winning. I’m a competitor, I’m going to push the guy next to me verbally or just by action. Off be field, I understand the game is bigger than me, so I love to give back and make others happy. I’m also not a distraction off the field.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

My final pitch to a NFL team or other pro scouts would be if they were to choose me, that they would get a guy who loves the game of football and is going to come in and work everyday. I’m willing to try and get better each and everyday. I’m very coachable!
