Name: Mark Kozhaya
College: Whittier
Position: Offensive Line
Height: 6’5″
Weight: 330
Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?
Mark: Technician, smart, agile.
Q: How are you going to train/prepare this offseason in preparation for the draft or other pro opportunities?
Mark: I’m getting ready for the regional combine in New Orleans by training at STARS, in Anaheim, CA. I’m trying to improve my 40 time and look good in all the other drills, hopefully to catch the eye of a scout. Hopefully a pro day can come from my times displayed at the combine.
Q: If you could compare yourself to one current or former NFL player who would it be and why?
Mark: If I could compare myself to one player, it would be Tyron Smith because of how well he uses his feet and his hands. He’s prides himself on being technically sound, just as I pride myself as being perfect in everything I do.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?
Mark: When watching film, I look for where the DE lines up on every play, normally that gives away what gap he’s playing at the snap of the ball. I also look at how the defensive end will play on run plays and what his favorite pass rush move is. I also look for linebacker alignment for blitz purposes and safety rotation. Safety rotation gives away where the pressure will come from on the edge.
Q: What separates you from other players at your position?
Mark: What separates me from other players at my position is the ability to break down film and anticipate what the front 7 will do before the play. Breaking down film has always been a strength of mine and it’s the reason why I can play at a high level.
Q: What kind of abilities would you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
Mark: I can bring my leadership abilities to a team both on and off the field. I’ve been a team captain for 2 years in college and 2 years in high school. Players trust me and believe in me and we always feed off one another. I will also be a positive influence to the team and always put the team before myself.
Q: What is your final pitch/sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
Mark: My final pitch to an NFL or pro league team would be to sign me because I will bring energy and hard work to the team. I’ll always be early to meetings or practice and be the last to leave. You will be getting a high class player on and off the field.
