NFL Draft 2017 Prospect: Kevin Goic

Name: Kevin Goic
College: Graceland
Position: Safety
Height: 6’0″
Weight: 195

Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?

Kevin: Fast. Patient. Physical.

Q: How are you going to train/prepare this offseason in preparation for the draft or other pro opportunities?

Kevin: I’m still in school at a small town in Iowa, so I’ve been training with the football team here and doing my own workouts with a coach before class in the morning. He’s been helping me improve my feet and hips, I went to the regional combine in Minnesota and it helped me understand where I need to get better.

Q: If you could compare yourself to one current or former NFL player who would it be and why?

Kevin: I’d compare myself to Kenny Vaccaro. I like how intelligent he is on the field and he gets into the right fits on the run defense. I think with an NFL training program I can get to his size and be as explosive as him on the field.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?

Kevin: My DB coach would always tell me to find tendencies on the offense. Such as, if a lineman puts his hand down or up on pass or run or if a Receiver switches his stance for certain routes. When I watch myself, I just try and see why I failed on a certain play at practice. It also helps to see what formations the other team runs on certain downs or packages.

Q: What separates you from other players at your position?

Kevin: I think what separates me, is for my university, I had to make all the checks and it really raises my football IQ. I think I’m versatile too since I played free, strong, and some outside backer. My senior year I didn’t really miss tackles in the open field and I like to think I do what’s needed of me for my team to win.

Q: What kind of abilities would you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

Kevin: I was a 2 time captain at my university, so off the field I think I’m a good leader. My strength coach was good at making us lead each other in the weight room and I love competition so I think I’ll bring a fire to a team. On the field, I think I’ll bring versatility to a team. I’m willing to play all special teams or any position on defense needed of me.

Q: What is your final pitch/sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

Kevin: For 4 years I attended a great university, but the struggle was we do not have the same resources here as D1 schools. No indoor facilities or great equipment to use. Basically have a couple weight bars and plates. The weather was a problem with getting outside to do footwork and the one gym we have is always taken by other teams. I think if I get a chance to play for a pro team I’ll finally have the resources, nutrition, and everything needed for me to take my game to the next level. All I need is the opportunity.
