Name: John Kontowicz
College: Wisconsin – Stevens Point
Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?
John: Physical, Fast, Relentless
Q: How are you going to train/prepare this offseason in preparation for the draft or other pro opportunities?
John: I have been training at NX Level in Waukesha, Wisconsin where many pro athletes such as JJ Watt train. They really have advanced my athletic ability and my overall speed as a football player.
Q: If you could compare yourself to one current or former NFL player who would it be and why?
John: I would compare myself to Luke Keuchely of the Carolina Panthers. He’s someone who I look up to and model my game after. He constantly is watching film and has great instinct as a linebacker to make big plays, in big situations. He is a relentless player who is always flying to the ball and looking to make the tackle no matter if it’s fifty yards down the field.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?
John: I look for any tendencies that a team has in what type of plays they run and the formations they come out in. I also look for any hints that a player can give me such as an O lineman stepping a certain way on a play or a running back sitting at a specific depth. Film gives you the answers to the test before it happens so it is very important to spend a lot of time studying.
Q: What separates you from other players at your position?
John: I have the ability to make reads very fast and see different things that not every player does. These are important tangibles to have as a linebacker. This allows me to get to the ball before the play has developed.
Q: What kind of abilities would you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
John: I am a player who will make every effort to make my team better. As I said earlier, I’m someone who who has great instinct and the ability to read plays before they happen. I also am very versatile because of my speed in which you can put me in different positions such as special teams and I will make plays. I also have a great leadership ability off the field to do things correct and help my team whether that is in or off the field.
Q: What is your final pitch/sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
John: I am a player that will give 110% no matter what the situation. I bring many tangibles to a team as a player because I am a leader, fast, instinctual, and will do whatever it takes to help make my football team better. I am extremely coachable and willing to do whatever it takes to win and be successful.
