Malik Watson: 2018 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Malik Watson
School: Dixie State
Position: Quarterback
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 220

Q: What were some of your goals heading into your final collegiate season?

Some of my goals going into my senior year were to reach and win the National Championship, break every offensive record in my school’s history, win our conference, and make a run at the Harlon Hill award.

Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?

Poised, Consistent, Prepared.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

I have actually been training the past couple months here at Bommaritos Performance Systems and also training with QB coach Ken Mastrole as well in Miami, FL.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?

I always have a certain purpose for why I’m watching film, but to be exact; when watching a defense, I always look at the fronts (box) with LB’s on up to the DB’s. Fronts, stunts, games, and all blitz indicators. Look at all that they do regularly, then get into little things like indicators of disguises of coverages, matchups, strengths, and weaknesses within the defense.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

What separates me is my drive and hunger to be successful and essentially make the most of my opportunities. My journey here has been a unique one and I believe it says a lot about the character I’ve developed over my college career and my passion for the game.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

I will be bringing a skill set that can be a difference maker on the field with my arm strength, accuracy, mobility, and toughness. However, off the field, an extremely hard worker and will do anything and everything within the rules to be successful. I’m a huge team guy and would be the best teammate I can possibly be with leadership qualities that I believe are very important.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

I am a guy who absolutely loves the game of football. Me saying I have a chip on my shoulder is an understatement. My work ethic is one that will be consistent every day, while doing everything I can to compete at the highest level and never stop wanting to get better in every aspect. My toughness I believe is something that has always propelled me to new heights and will be able to handle any situation thrown at me as I prepare for them. I believe to have leadership qualities that are very important as well. Any chance I get, I know I will do everything in my power to make the most of it. At the end of the day, you’re getting a guy who wants to be great. I’m the guy that can help you reach a Super Bowl.
