Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
I set a number of goals for myself coming into my final collegiate season. My first goal was to lead my team in sacks for the season. I did accomplish this goal, finishing the season with 6.5 sacks. My second personal goal was to be the sack leader in my conference (Empire 8). I wasn’t able to accomplish this goal due to a season ending injury that I experienced week 5. Up until then I was the sack leader, however I did finish third in sacks for the conference. My final goal and most important goal was to be a better leader for my team. I did accomplish this goal. Although I was not able to play the entire season, I could wholeheartedly say that I gave my team my all, and lead to the best of my ability!
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
My coaches and teammates would describe me as a passionate, physical, fearless, perseverant player. Throughout my college career every challenge I faced, I persevered. Physicality is also a major part of my game. I take pride in being the aggressor.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?
During film study, I focus on many things. For starters I like to break down the Offensive Tackles on the other team. I watch for things like: whether or not they overset in the pass game, how aggressive they are, footwork, how they react to movement (stunts), stance and more. Then I like to look at the backfield. Put some time in watching the quarterback and running backs to look for small tendencies. I then like to watch some special teams. I used to not put much focus on specials, however I’ve learned the importance of that facet in the game. Lastly, I like to watch film of myself. I like to watch myself from the previous game to see where I made mistakes, and where I may not have made a mistake but I could have been less robotic and more of a football player (How our coaches put it).
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
What separates me from many is simply my versatility as well as willingness to do whatever it takes to help my team succeed.. I came in my freshman year as a MLB. Was then moved to DE then DT, then Nose and lastly back to DE.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
My main goal right now is to rehab my knee and get full mobility back. This off-season will consist of a lot of rehabbing getting myself to a state where I feel comfortable and confident in my abilities to execute my movements.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
On the field, I will bring my football IQ, confidence and energy. Those three things along with other characteristics I believe will have a positive impact on the rest of my team while on the field. As for off the field the number one thing I’d say is my character. I hold myself to a different standard and would represent the team as well as myself in a positive manner.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL or any other pro leagues?
I wasn’t able to playout my entire senior season, and although it could be seen as “taking a risk on a kid from little Alfred University,” I will do everything in my power to make the risk worth it, and the end result will be worth it as well. I mentioned before that I am resilient and will find a way to persevere, and overcoming this injury and getting back to a state of peak performance is just another obstacle I WILL overcome.
