Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
The main goals I had set for my final college season were to win the Conference and National Championship and to become 1st Team All-MIAA. We, as a team, accomplished winning the conference with an 11-0 record. We came up short against the eventual National Champions, Ferris State, in the playoffs. I became 1st Team All-MIAA, along with 17 of my teammates making an all-conference team as well.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
My coaches and teammates would say that I am a team first guy and that I always did what was needed to win a game. They would say that I worked hard on and off the field and that I upheld the Gorilla Standard. They would say that I am a dominant competitor and I want to improve every aspect of myself.
Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?
When I am watching film of myself a couple things I am looking for are quickness off the ball, intent of pass sets, aiming points on blocks, hand placement, pad level, and if I did my job correctly on the play. When I am watching film on DLineman I am looking for any competitive advantage and trying to pick up on any keys he is giving away. I am looking for if he switches hands when he twists, is he off the ball when he is stunting, does he line up heavier on the body when he is slanting the front. I am also looking for the leverage of the safety to be able to point out different blitzes. To the boundary, if the safety is stacked over the numbers or hash marks when his normal alignment is in the middle of the field, I know there is a boundary pressure coming. I am also looking for the leverage of the linebackers and seeing if they are giving anything away. If their normal alignment is 5 yards and suddenly they are 3 yards off the ball that could indicate that they are coming or if the linebackers are really close that could mean they are running some kind of Ammo X blitz or some kind of cross dog blitz. I am looking for any keys that could make me successful on that play.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
A couple things that separate me from other prospects at my position are my size, athleticism, play strength and football IQ. With 50+ career college starts I am able to pick up on keys and process them quickly. I am 6’5 335 pounds and for being that big I am very athletic. No matter what scheme we are running I can get it done because I am big and strong enough to run inside zone, but I am also fast and quick enough to run mid zone and outside zone. I also do a great job in pass pro with the intentions of my set and being an athlete when I get to that spot.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
My offseason plan is to stay in Pittsburg, KS and train with my strength and conditioning coaches here while getting offensive lineman development from my OLine coach at Pitt State. I felt this was the best situation for me because I am going to be around people that know and understand my body and they will be able to use that knowledge to best prepare me for proday and an NFL opportunity.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
Some strengths and abilities I will bring to a team are leadership, community responsibility, and raising the standard of the organization. During my 5 years of college, I have been voted captain, by my teammates, 3 times and this is a big accomplishment for me because it lets me know that they recognize the work I put in and they want me to lead them into battle. I will also bring community responsibility, meaning it is a priority for me to give back to the youth and improve the circumstances for people in the area. On the field I bring fast, physical, dominant and relentless play. I will be a sponge and soak up all the knowledge that the older players and coaches give me. I will also look to bring others along with me and look for any opportunities to help someone out.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?
My final pitch to an NFL/Pro team is give me a chance if you want the standard of play in the organization to improve. Give me a chance because I will work the hardest. I will work not only to improve myself but to improve the team as much as I can. Whether it’s starting or protecting field goals, I will do everything to the standard that it’s supposed to be done.
