Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
One of my goals was to help lead this team back into a championship culture. My junior year we ended the year 4-5 after finishing the previous three years winning our conference and entering the DIII college football playoffs. My second goal was to finish the year either first team or second team all-conference. I finished the season being second team all-conference. My third goal was to successfully help lead the offensive line. Two out of the five of us had little to no game experience so it was very crucial for the other three, including me, to help them along. So starting in the off season we started focusing and working on their footwork, driving, hand placement, and pass sets. As the season progressed, we got better and better each week.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
They would say that I am one of the leaders on the team. My offensive line coach would use me as an example for the other guards when it came to technique and the intensity of play. Other players, especially the o-line, looked up to me for support and to help improve their game. Both coaches and players would say that I am a fun guy that likes to joke around but when there’s work to be done I can easily flip the switch and get work done.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?
As a player, there’s always room for improvement no matter how good you are. While I was watching film from the previous week, I was looking for anything to improve on. Then all week I worked on those specific things so during next week’s game I would preform better. As I was watching our upcoming opponents’ film, I would concentrate on formations, their stances if they’re blitzing or backing out, their favorite or most used pass rush moves, and I would watch their tendencies at the end of the game if their pass rush changes, do they try harder if they’re down or not, or do they play lazy if they’re tired.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
I always put my team before me. I would do anything to help improve the team and myself in any way possible. I take constructive criticism well, and readily work on whatever it is that needs the improvement. I set goals for myself and my team. After every goal I meet I set myself a new one because I believe having goals is an element every great player possesses.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
My offseason plan is working out and training with my strength and conditioning coach of four years. I am extremely comfortable working with him, and he knows exactly what I need to do when it comes to improving my individual body in and out the weight room.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
I can help bring knowledge to the team. Identifying fronts and what kind of blitzes they can bring. I can also bring the run blocking. I love blocking, getting movement, and seeing the running back bust out for a big gain or for a touchdown.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL or any other pro leagues?
I am the ultimate team player on and off the field. Like I mentioned before I would do anything for the team. Position change, gain or lose weight, improve my physical and mental game, and everything in between. Also, off the field I conduct myself in a respectable manner that any NFL or pro league would be proud of. I am a successful, grateful player, and it would be a honor to play for you.
