Kene Okonkwo: 2018 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Kene Okonkwo
School: New Mexico
Position: Defensive End
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 275

Q: What were some of your goals heading into your final collegiate season?

Go to a bowl game, be a top 5 tackler on the team, and lead team in TFLs/Sacks.

Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?

Quick, Aggressive and Controlled.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

I’m currently in Albuquerque training for Pro day with my trainer, just working on getting faster, stronger, and working on technique. It’s been a fun experience.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?

I take time to examine my stance and to see how quick I am getting off the ball. Also, my hand placement and if I am too high. I also look at the stance, footwork, and the hands of the Offensive Lineman.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

I’ve only played the game of football for 5 years and in those years I have progressively gotten better. When you look at my college career you can see that progression as well. I believe I have a lot upside in my game and possess the quickness, aggressiveness, and hand speed that it takes to play the Defensive End position.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

My biggest strength would have to be my quickness and ability to get to the ball and shed blockers. Every play I want to make sure that I am around the ball.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

I am a player who has only 5 years of football under his belt and I believe I have the upside to continue to play this game. The best is yet to come in my career. I don’t think that I have hit my peek at all yet in my career and I am ready to continue to grow and learn.
