Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
A goal that I set was to stay healthy and take care of my body. I missed a season from injury.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
My coaches and teammates would describe me as a spark plug. I bring energy to practice and games. They would also say that I am competitive and never run from competition.
Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?
When I evaluate my own film I critique myself on things I can do that will put me in a position to make a better play. When I scout my opponent I look for tendencies and tells to give me an idea of concepts they may be running. I analyze the receivers strengths and weaknesses along with the quarterback’s mechanics.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
My knowledge of the game. I would say I truly am a student of the game, I love this game, I spend hours watching film on my opponents searching for tendencies and looking for an advantage. I’ve also been incorporated in many different defensive schemes making me familiar with a variety of techniques at corner. I’ve played in nickel and dime packages, press technique, off man, and shuffle technique. Lastly my heart sets me apart. There’s plenty of players out there that pass the eye test but do they have that dog in them when they step on the field?
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
I will be joining the track team and starting my masters degree in hopes to stay in shape and get faster and more explosive. This works to my advantage because I still have access to the gym on campus and can continue to get stronger.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
I bring great energy to the field along and work hard. I’m also a team player, I will do whatever it takes to get the task at hand done, even if that means being on the practice squad. I would say I have great character and contagious energy that spreads to the people who surround me.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?
I know there will be scouts that look at me and turn me down solely because of my size. I want to let them know personally that my heart has taken me places that my size could never and the heart is what gets the job done not the size.
