Jaylon Johnson: 2018 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Jaylon Johnson
School: North Carolina Wesleyan College
Position: Free Safety
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 178

Q: What were some of your goals heading into your final collegiate season?

Some of my goals were to lead the young guys in my secondary to become better Defensive Backs, another one of my goals was to get my name in the tackle record books for my school and I did.

Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?

Aggressive, Smart, Fast.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

I am currently training with Fit performance to help prepare for the different combine tests.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?

When I’m studying film, I focus on the players I’m going to be facing. I focus on their experience, style, and what things they tend to do to give routes away.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

I think the range I have on the field separates me. I run a 4.4 forty so I’m able to have enough range all over the field. Also, being able to be the band aid for the defense. When stuff goes wrong and it’s a broken play, I tend to make a good tackle or a good play to stop from an even bigger one from happening.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

My hard work and my understanding of the game. Off the field, I put effort in to everything i’m doing, which I’ve learned from my years playing football, that if you give everything 100% effort, a lot of good things will come out of it on and off the field.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

My final pitch for the scouts is that they should take a look at me because of my speed and my ability to make sure tackles at the Safety position. I won’t cause problems on the team. I will help the team by learning the standard the team has and following it, which will rub off on others.
