Jalen Bowers: 2018 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Jalen Bowers
School: McNeese State University
Position: Defensive Line
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 251

Q: What were some of your goals heading into your final collegiate season?

My goals were to know my role on the team and do it well. I wanted myself to be in the best position to help my team perform to the best of our ability every night. I wanted us to be successful to put us into a position to win the conference along with making the playoffs to make a run for a national championship.

Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?

Reliable
Knowledgeable
Fast

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

My training consisted of working out with our strength and conditioning staff here at McNeese along with doing some drills and running on my own in my spare time.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?

Studying film has lead me to notice what an offense does out of certain formations. We broke our film sessions down to personnel groupings, so it made it easy on us to know what a team’s top plays were out of each personnel. From studying the offensive line, I would look at feet and hands, was there an indication of if they were pulling by being light on their hands. What pass rush moves would work on each by if they were a quick setter or hand slow feet to beat them with speed.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

I think what separates me from others is my ability to study the game. I can study the opponent and know what to expect from them that can allow me to get an advantage. I won’t be the biggest or the fastest, but good technique and knowledge can help get an edge and dominant the opponent.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

I could bring a lot of versatility to a team. I came to McNeese as a defensive lineman then switched to spending my first two years as a TE that played mainly special teams, which goes back to me saying that I can play my role and do it to the best of my ability. Whatever is needed of me I will do it. My last two seasons back on defensive, I spent time playing end and inside at tackle being undersized and helping my team out by using my strengths of quickness against the guards.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

My final pitch is that all I need is a chance. I will be willing and ready to go to work from day one, so that I can be ready to be a contributor in any way along with making my teammates better each day. I have a great work ethic that can go for both on and off the field.
