Name: Jake Dunniway
School: Sacramento State
Position: QB
Height: 6-1
Weight: 220
Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
Going into my last season I really wanted to focus on team success and being the best leader and teammate I could be. We had high expectations as we were 2x defending conference champions so we wanted to three peat and win in the FCS playoffs which has never been done in our schools history. We accomplished both goals and went 11-0 in the regular season.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
My teammates and coaches would describe me as being resilient, hard working, and a fierce competitor. Having faced adversity in many ways, I have always found a way to win and make the guys around me successful.
Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?
Watching film is critical to my success. I want to know everything there is to know about my opponent before hand that way I can be prepared to practice and play on gameday. I focus a lot on coverages, defensive fronts, blitz tendencies, leverage keys, player personnel, and potential favorable matchup indicators.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
What separates me from other pro prospects is my ability to make those around me better. I am trusting of the system I am in and confident in my abilities as well as my teammate’s abilities which allows me to distribute the ball where it needs to go and be efficient with my decision making. I also have a high football IQ and thrive in high intensity situations.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
This offseason I have been training for Pro Day at Sacramento State with our other senior athletes looking for an opportunity at the next level. Our Pro Day is scheduled for March 31st.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
What I intend to bring to the next team I am on is leadership and the expectation to win. I am very driven and have been a part of winning programs my whole life. Culture is very important and I believe love is the strongest factor in building a winning culture. Love for my teammates, coaches, competition, the process, and the game. Off the field I intend to make a difference in the community by helping those in need through charity and acts of service.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?
You may not know who I am or have ever heard of Jake Dunniway being that I came from a smaller Division 1 school. But in the 3 seasons I played at Sacramento State we have won 3 straight conference titles, we were ranked 2nd in the country, won our first ever FCS playoff game, and went 11-0 in the regular season. I was the highest rated passer in the country in 2021 by PFF with a 91.6 grade and have an 18-0 record as a starter in conference play. You will get a player with a chip on his shoulder and passion to win. I’ve been overlooked my whole life and just need an opportunity to show you the kind of player I am.
