Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
I set numerous goals for myself, and honestly, this is one of only times I did not achieve the goals I set for myself, which makes me hungrier to keep working hard. I wanted to be an All-American, be first team all-conference, and win offensive POTY in the GLIAC. I am still grateful because I was blessed to be on second team all-conference; however, it does leave a bitter taste in my mouth. I could be disappointed that I did not accomplish these goals, but it gives me more fuel to prove to myself I am the player I know I can be.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
Catalyst. Energizer Bunny. Spark Plug. The Engine. The Hope. Big Play Zay. Even though I am considered a small guy, all my teammates will say i don’t play that way. I am a very special player who is lionhearted. My coaches and teammates would say I am levelheaded. Always calm, cool, and collected. He is a leader who is relaxed, but focused on making sure he uses every rep to be 1% better. He knows how to keep the mood light, but stays locked in until the mission is complete.
Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?
My weaknesses. I already know that my ability is God-given and I am thankful every day for that. Knowing my strengths allows me to work on my weaknesses everyday because you are only as strong as your weakest link. I am always looking for ways to improve my IQ by watching tendencies and patterns from the defense, specifically the LB core because it can help me identify how I should attack my running style for each game.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
Versatility, speed and quickness, and my change of direction. I am one of the most versatile players in the country and my film speaks for itself. Shady McCoy is Mr. Cut on a Dime and I believe I am the same way. I haven’t seen many players who can cut and maintain the same speed, which is a rare talent I have. With my stature, it definitely helps because my center of gravity is great.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
I decided to come back to home base to train for now. The trainers within my hometown know my body and my game the best, which is awesome because they know my weaknesses and will help me build on those to become a better all-around player. I will continue to train everyday and twice on Sunday if I have to because when my opportunity arises, I will take full advantage and never look back.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
Leadership, Work Ethic, Passion, Integrity, Confidence, Desire, and honestly, the list goes on. The story I have built to this point in my life will give people hope and motivation to become the best you can be. I already stand out because of my size, so I already know the eyes are on me. Then, when people see me perform, I will stand out even more showing I belong.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?
All I need is one chance, one opportunity. I am a gamechanger and all I need is one snap to change the entire outcome of a game. From the natural eye test, it may seem you are not getting much; however, you will come to realize why you didn’t take the chance sooner.
