Q: What were some of your goals heading into your final collegiate season?
Win a starting spot with a new coaching staff. Average 2 TFL per game. Get 14 sacks to at least tie my brother’s single season record. Earn another All-Conference award.
Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?
Instinctive, Smart, Fast.
Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?
I started training for my pro day in Addison, Texas at 4th and Inches with Noel Scarlett for three weeks. I then made a transition to St. Louis and worked with Johnny Johnson at Athletic Republic for 2 weeks. Finally, I joined my brother in the Chicago area and started two-a-day sessions with both SPEAR and EFT. I will continue working at SPEAR until I need to report.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?
I look for tendencies in both the play calls and offensive tackles or TEs first steps. Also, knowing what to expect if the RB is to me or away. When playing off of an edge, the end man on the LOS will tell me what I need to know 9 times out of 10.
Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?
I have the ability and knowledge to get the job done. I’ve played in many games that have allowed me to learn what to expect and do in certain scenarios. Also, having a brother in the NFL who plays the same position enhances my knowledge of the game tremendously.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
I’m very personable and have a background in speech communications which helps me connect and communicate with others. That’s definitely a strength in a team setting. I have grit, whatever it takes I will get it done. I also take critiques well along with being coachable and easy to work with.
Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
My name is Darrian Bass and I’m ready for my shot. I’ve been preparing for this my whole life and all I need is for you to give me the opportunity to show what I bring to the table. I have the fundamentals locked down and look forward to perfecting my skills by playing with the best. Beyond football, I’m an expert communicator that can enhance team chemistry, a component we all know is necessary to win championships. Above all, I have the drive. I’ve dreamed of this day since I was 5 years old and you won’t find passion bigger than mine. I’m ready to go to work.
