Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
As far as team goals, I wanted to bring another NEC championship to Loretto. We fell short of meeting this goal but I feel that the team took a great step and is moving in the right direction. My individual goals were to be named a team captain and make the first team all-conference list. I managed to accomplish both of these goals.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
I think that if you ask anyone who I played with or for, I believe that they would say that I play with a lot of passion and love for the game. I always tell people that no one has more fun on the field than I do. I enjoy the physical nature of offensive line play, and I believe that it shows with the way I play the game. I do everything I can to enjoy the game as well as support my teammates and coaches.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?
When I watch film I like to begin with myself and work outwards. I start with myself and my technique. I will look for any flaws with how I align, set, punch, etc. Additionally, I look to see how I finish every play, am I standing around or am I playing through the echo of the whistle? Once I have thoroughly evaluated myself, then I will look at the opponent. I like to look at my individual matchup first. It is important to look at an opponent’s technique and their tendencies. Additionally, I look for any habits that might giveaway their assignment or movement on a specific play. Finally, I like to look at the defense as a whole. Do the linebackers play downhill or do they flow over the top? Do the safeties stack in a specific way that gives away a blitz? I like to look for tendencies that can help the offense out.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
First, I bring a lot of experience to the table. Having started in 46 career games against some of the best defenses in the FCS, I have been fortunate to gain a lot of valuable knowledge about the game. I have also been exposed to some of the top talent when it comes to defensive lineman, so I have been able to measure myself against their talent levels. Additionally, I would say that I bring an extremely high level of passion with my game. Everyone will tell you that they love football. Everyone loves winning games. But, I believe that if you ask those who have been around me on the field, they will tell you that I love to play offensive line. Nothing is more satisfying that dominating a defensive lineman for four quarters. I think that my enthusiasm and passion for my position set me apart from the pack.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
I am still evaluating my options when it comes to training. However, I fully plan to train harder than I ever have to put myself in the best position to take advantage of the opportunity to play football professionally.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
As I’ve said before, I bring a great passion for offensive line play. I love to physically impose my will on opponents. Additionally, I believe that I bring good leadership qualities to the table. I personally believe that my technique is the strength of my game. My technique is what has gotten me this far, and I plan to improve my technique greatly in my training.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL or any other pro leagues?
I would say to any team out there that I am just a player who would be extremely grateful for an opportunity to showcase my abilities. I have experienced both individual and team success throughout my college career. I bring a great passion for the game, and I refused to be outworked by my competition. I believe that this passion, along with my technique, sets me apart from the pack. I would love nothing more than the opportunity to compete at a professional level and match up against the best out there.
