Chris Kantzavelos: 2018 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Chris Kantzavelos
School: Central Michigan University
Position: Defensive Line
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 295

Q: What were some of your goals heading into your final collegiate season?

Heading into my senior year, I wanted to be a strong defensive contributor to a MAC champion team. I focused on strengthening my endurance both physically and mentally. Senior year an opportunity presented itself to move to the interior of the defensive line. My goal was to perfect my skills in that new position to help lead our team to success. I also aimed to be a role model to the younger guys within our program.

Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?

Fearless, ambitious, and tenacious.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

This offseason, I’ve been training at Acceleration in Naperville, Illinois going through their combine program in an effort to increase my numbers in all aspects of the program. I’m also doing position training with former NFL defensive linemen, Brian Schaefering. I have all the confidence that I will be prepared to perform at the highest level.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?

When watching film, I first look at the offensive line personnel. I watch for their different stances, weight distribution, pre-snap keys, as well as their pad level. This will give me the best opportunity to win each rep against the guy I’m lined up across from.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

When comparing me to other players, I have a high motor and I’m relentless. I chase down plays and give it my all on every down. Another important characteristic is that I’m very coachable. I’m eager to learn, naturally curious, and a quick study, all of which I use to enhance my abilities.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

On the field, I am a steady and dependable player. I pride myself on not missing assignments and executing the plays as I am coached to do. Off the field, I enjoy giving back to the community by volunteering with my high school Alma mater sports programs, Special Olympics, and other youth football events. Above all, I am family-oriented and have applied the values and respect that my father instilled in me to every situation on and off the field.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

I embrace challenges and rise to the occasion to meet them. I am confident that my strong work ethic and character complement the long standing traditions and values of the NFL.
