Vincent Winey: 2022 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Vincent Winey
School:  Morehead State University
Position: LB
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 230

What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

The ultimate goal was to win the Conference which we came very close to doing, but in the process we also had back to back winning seasons for the first time in over a decade. Personally, I wanted to reach 100 tackles and 10+ TFLs, which I accomplished with 106 Tackles and 12.5 TFLs.

Q: How do you think you took advantage of the extra year of eligibility to increase your chances of going pro?

It gave me time to study the game more and learn how to read tendencies and formations more efficiently than I have ever been able to. I also put up the best statistical season of my career.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

They would say I am hardworking, extremely passionate and enthusiastic, and will do whatever it takes to win.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

When I study film, I try to recognize opponents tendencies and any individual opponents weaknesses that I can exploit during the game. When watching myself, I focus on my pad level and my explosiveness and my eyes, I feel like it is important to know what you are looking at at all times.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

I am a complete well-rounded athlete. I can rush the passer, play in zone and man coverage, and I have sideline to sideline speed paired with a great football IQ to diagnose plays and chase down runners across the field. I am also a complete field general: I know the playbook in and out and I know what all of my teammates are supposed to be doing on every play. Having me on the field is like having an extra coach.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

During this off-season, I plan to put on some more muscle while keeping my speed and agility at an elite level. I will be working on my combine performance drills so that I can perform at an elite level at showcases and my pro day.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

As I previously stated, I have an elite football IQ that allows me to act like a coach on the field. I believe that wherever I end up in my pro career, I will be able to make a difference immediately with my effort on special teams and my film study which will make my coaches confident in putting me on the field. One of my biggest strengths as a player is my ability to quickly learn and be able to play any position on the field.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

Stay tuned in for my pro day, my performance will do the talking for me!
