Shedrick Kirk: 2022 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Shedrick Kirk
School: Kentucky Wesleyan College
Position: CB/DB
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 205

What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

After the Covid season, I wrote down down my goals as a student athlete and worked hard the whole summer to prepare. Our team goal was to go 1-0 everyday. I took that personally when it came to perfecting my craft and being the best teammate/leader I could be.

Q: How do you think you took advantage of the extra year of eligibility to increase your chances of going pro?

I took it as a blessing to get better than I was the last season. It gave me more time to mature and really learn the game even more. I went from no INT and four PBU to being one of the leaders in my conference in INT and passes defended. It definitely helped me.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

They would say that I am the type to lead by example. I speak up when I feel the need to, but I let my work ethic, practice habits, and play do the talking. They would also say I am very passionate about the game that I love.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

When I study film, I look for tendencies from the offensive line to all the skill guys on offense. You can find something small as the way a lineman stands when it’s run or pass to know what to expect. Film study separates the great from the elite.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

What separates me is that I have a chip on my shoulder and I have something to prove. I come from a small school so I am used to being overlooked, but that makes the story even better. Every day I am reminded of that and it makes me hungrier. Another thing is that I am an athlete. I can be put anywhere in the back, with my size I can be put in the box as well. I also don’t mind playing special teams. I work hard every day and I take practice seriously. I am focused on being better.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

My off-season plan is to work and train everyday so when I get the call, I am already prepared.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

My strengths and abilities are that I am a team player. Someone you would want in your locker room. On the field, I am a fast and physical corner who can play any type of defense needed. I am someone who wants and will work to win.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

Some of greatest athletes started at the bottom, they worked and ended up being some of the greatest to ever do it. I aspire and work to be that guy.
