Ryan Carriere: 2022 Pro Prospect Interview
Name: Ryan Carriere
What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?
Going into the season, I wanted to make the all-conference team, do my part to help develop our young guys, and play in a bowl game.
Q: How do you think you took advantage of the extra year of eligibility to increase your chances of going pro?
I took advantage of my extra year and worked to become a more well-rounded tight end. I focused on my physicality in the run game, my technique in pass blocking, and identifying defenses in the pass game. Another aspect I took advantage of was learning to be a better leader. Since our tight end room last season was fairly young, I did my best to help them with their technique and playbook, among other things.
Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?
My coaches and teammates would say I am a hardworking, physical, and consistent player. I do my job and know my role.
Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?
While I’m watching film, I always ask myself: Did I use my technique? Did I execute the play? Did I finish the play? If I didn’t answer those questions positively for the play I’m watching, then I focus on why and I know that’s where I need to improve going forward.
Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?
I think my biggest strength, and what sets me apart from others, is my run blocking. Through the years I’ve been at Charlotte, I’ve developed a physicality and mentality in the run game that would translate well at the next level.
Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?
Throughout my time in Charlotte, I’ve enjoyed working with our strength coach. I think he’s one of the best. Because of that, I’m staying in Charlotte to train under him.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
My adaptability is one of my strengths that will help me stand out. During my career, I have been able to adapt my skills to fit into different roles and schemes. I also always want to be the best at getting better. I try to constantly improve myself, both on and off the field. Doing this will allow me to better myself which will help better the team.
Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?
As a tight end, I am versatile in my role and I know I’m able to contribute in many ways, some that are quantifiable in the stat line, and others that aren’t. From run and pass blocking to going out on routes, I’m ready to play the role that helps the team the most.
