Nick Tomkins: 2018 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Nick Tomkins
School: Dartmouth College
Position: Defensive Line
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 290

Q: What were some of your goals heading into your final collegiate season?

My goal was to go 10-0 and win another Ivy League championship. However, we had two close losses and we ended up finishing in second place.

Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?

Tough. Physical. Competitive.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

In December, I trained with my trainer, Nick Citro at Result Fitness Performance, who I have been training with for five years now. From January up until now, I have been training at school with my strength coach, Spencer Brown, and a few other seniors who are training for the NFL.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?

I first focus on what kind of offense the other team runs and what formations they will line up in. Then, I will look at the offense’s tendencies and what they like to do in certain situations. I also look at the offensive linemen’s stances. Are their heads turned a certain way in certain situations? When do they line up in a 2-point stance as opposed to a 3-point stance? Are the tackles leaning forward when it’s a run play? Are they leaning back on pass? Are the guards’ stances staggered when they’re pulling?

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

I think what separates me is my athleticism and versatility. I believe I am athletic enough to play on the edge and rush the passer, but also big and strong enough to play inside.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

One of my biggest strengths on the field is my durability. Throughout my 16 years of playing football, I have never missed a practice or a game due to injury. I also see myself as a leader and a positive addition to the locker room.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

My final pitch is that I might not be coming from a big FBS school, but I believe I was capable at playing at that level. I also believe I am hungrier than a lot of other players. I will play with a ton of motivation and with a chip on my shoulder.
