Name: Matthew Mckoy
College: Saginaw Valley State
Position: Strong Safety
Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?
Matthew: Physical, knowledgeable, savvy.
Q: How are you going to train/prepare this offseason in preparation for the draft or other pro opportunities?
Matthew: This offseason I’m training with my strength and conditioning coach, as well as a local speed and development trainer.
Q: If you could compare yourself to one current or former NFL player who would it be and why?
Matthew: I would compare myself to Kam Chancellor because he plays with knowledge and relentless physicality.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?
Matthew: Studying film, I analyze almost every aspect of the offense. Personnel, run/pass tendencies, quarterback pre snap signals, WR route footwork, QB’s favorite WR and much more. Also, studying Lineman run/pass give always, and which ones are good at pulling.
Q: What separates you from other players at your position?
Matthew: What separates me from everyone else besides my physical abilities is the amount of studying that I do to prepare myself for what the other team is going to do. It isn’t likely that I won’t have a good idea of what the offense is going to run. There have been countless times where I have called plays out during pre snap.
Q: What kind of abilities would you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
Matthew: My ability to learn quickly and understand what every part of the defense is supposed to be doing will raise my stock with coaches. Also, the time I take to study opponents and having the ability to execute what is needed on every play. Off of the field, I am active in my community and volunteer with multiple organizations.
Q: What is your final pitch/sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
Matthew: My final pitch to any scouts is that I am a player who will buy in and show you what a great move I am. I will play my role and have the ability to adapt. I am an individual who loves to learn and display my knowledge in different forms especially on the field. I’m giving you everything I have and I plan to make your team better!
