NFL Draft 2017 Prospect: JT Jones

Name: JT Jones
College: Miami Ohio
Position: Defensive End
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 255

Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?

JT: Fast, physical, and relentless.

Q: How are you going to train/prepare this offseason in preparation for the draft or other pro opportunities?

JT: I am currently training with Ignition APG in Cincinnati, Ohio improving my speed and strength. Ignition APG is also preparing me for interviews and what to expect at the pro level.

Q: If you could compare yourself to one current or former NFL player who would it be and why?

JT: I would compare myself with James Harrison and Von Miller. Harrison rushes the passer and can cover well. Where Harrison lacks in height he makes up with speed, power, technique, and relentless attitude and I feel that I do the same. Miller is a pure speed guy that has an unreal 3 and bend that I always practice. Miller is versatile in pass rush and pass coverage and I feel that I possess the same skills.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?

JT: When studying film, I try to focus on my individual match up with a Tight end or an Offensive Tackle. I pay close attention to their stance; where are his feet when he is reaching, when he is pass setting, when he is giving a base block. Some guys have their heel raised on certain plays and heel lowered on others. I also look for their eyes to tell me what they are looking at and predict who they are looking to block. Pad height can also give away run or pass reads. With a combination of these keys I look for, along with down and distance, it allows me to play faster and predict the offensive play. After the snap of the ball, I pay close attention to where my opponent likes to strike his punch on defenders. I also pay attention to what moves force the opponent to turn his hips and get him out of position.

Q: What separates you from other players at your position?

JT: What separates me from other players is that I am coachable, thirsty to learn, a natural leader, and my work ethic can’t be matched.

Q: What kind of abilities would you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

JT: On the field I will be the guy that you could give a job or assignment to and you wouldn’t worry about it getting completed. I will be the guy on Special teams that sells out each and every down like it’s the last. Off of the field I will continue to be a leader in my community and surroundings. I enjoy giving back and helping those in need.

Q: What is your final pitch/sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

JT: I am a talented and relentless pass rusher that is QB hungry. My speed and athleticism will make a great addition to your defense and special teams. Any team that picks me up will have a player that is committed to the team and willing to put the team first.
