Name: Joe Hillin
College: Mars Hill
Position: Offensive Line
Height: 6’0″
Weight: 295

Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?

Joe: Physical, Agile, and Relentless.

Q: How are you going to train/prepare this offseason in preparation for the draft or other pro opportunities?

Joe: This offseason I’m really focusing on speed and agility which will also make my hips a lot more flexible. I’ve also been working on muscular endurance. I’m doing my combine and pro day training at velocity sports in Greenville, SC under Mike Johnson!

Q: If you could compare yourself to one current or former NFL player who would it be and why?

Joe: I like to think my play reminds me of Jeff Saturday. He’s never been the biggest lineman, but has great feet, strong hands, and is always getting after somebody! Very physical undersized lineman that just needed an opportunity!

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?

Joe: When I’m studying film, the biggest thing I’m doing is figuring out the tendencies of the guy or Defensive Line I am facing. After that, I also like to breakdown how many times the linebackers blitz and where they like to blitz.

Q: What separates you from other players at your position?

Joe: What really sets me apart is my will to get things done. I’m extremely physical and I understand the game at a completely different level. I communicate with the Quarterbacks and Running Backs, so I understand how they see certain plays and formations.

Q: What kind of abilities would you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

Joe: I think leadership is huge. My coaches at MHU have looked to me to display leadership characteristics for the team since my Junior year. One thing that I’ve always thought was important was having relationships with everyone on your team. Once you get to know people, they tend to respond better and then that’s where we build team chemistry!

Q: What is your final pitch/sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

Joe: Yes, I’m undersized and played at a small school, but all my life I’ve been told I was too small to do this and too small to do that and now I’ve made it further than most people ever thought I would. You can coach technique, but you can’t coach a nasty steak. Just a pure physical get after it type mentality that’s something you just got to have to play at the next level!
