Name: DJ Newberry
College: Chowan
Position: Defensive Back
Height: 5’9″

Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?

DJ: Fast, hard, consistent.

Q: How are you going to train/prepare this offseason in preparation for the draft or other pro opportunities?

DJ: I am currently working out with my school strength and conditioning coach who has plenty of experience. Our main focus has been speed and explosiveness. I have also been doing a lot of DB work the past few years to prep myself for my transition from linebacker.

Q: If you could compare yourself to one current or former NFL player who would it be and why?

DJ: Deone Buccanon, he has blazing sideline to sideline ability and is great at covering from the linebacker position.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?

DJ: Alignment is a always the first thing I look for when watching film, but once I recognize the play, I began to evaluate how the key opponents react to adversity.

Q: What separates you from other players at your position?

DJ: Being that I have a strong linebacker background, I have a great nose for the ball and can eliminate a lot of decisions players make before the point of attack. I am also stronger than most DBs, so my ability to shed and eliminate blocks is exceptionally well.

Q: What kind of abilities would you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

DJ: Some people are put on this earth to lead and I believe the lord blessed me with that ability. No matter where I go or who I’m with, people tend to notice my leadership qualities and I’ve always been the one to own up to it and willing to sacrifice whatever I need to take the opportunity.

Q: What is your final pitch/sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

DJ: No matter where I play, who I play with, and where I have to start, I will standout and I will make the man in front of me feel like his job is on the line.
