NFL Draft 2017 Prospect: Benton Bray

Name: Benton Bray
College: Whittier
Position: Tight End
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 240

Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?

Benton: Consistent, Confident, Competitive.

Q: How are you going to train/prepare this offseason in preparation for the draft or other pro opportunities?

Benton: Since January I have been training twice a day, six days a week at Athletic Performance (AP) in Clovis, CA. At AP we have speed training usually in the morning with weight training in the afternoon. It has been an excellent place to train and prepare. My trainers there definitely had me in great shape for the NFL Regional Combine I attended in New Orleans and also the San Jose State Pro Day I participated in.

Q: If you could compare yourself to one current or former NFL player who would it be and why?

Benton: I would have to say Jason Witten because of his consistency and ability to get open. He’s not afraid to make a tough catch, knowing he’s going to get hit. I believe I play very similarly because I am not afraid of contact and like to play hard nosed football. He is a key contributor in both the run and pass game which is key for a tight end so I strive to have the balance that he does as a blocker and receiver.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?

Benton: I think it is important to first, watch a team and see what kind of defensive chemistry they have. I like to see how aggressive a defensive is, and also if they have any key tendencies in certain situations. Then I’ll focus on certain players that I will be going against to see exactly how they handle certain plays, coverages, and movements.

Q: What separates you from other players at your position?

Benton: I think my mentality separates me from other players. I am a very physical player. I take pride in my blocking down in the trenches as well as in my receiving abilities. Sometimes players lose focus on being a good all around tight end and focus more on getting the ball. I take pride in being a great teammate and leader by doing whatever my team needs.

Q: What kind of abilities would you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

Benton: I bring to a team an educated, experienced, leader. I have a deep love for the game of football and a strong desire to continue my career for as long as possible. I am a responsible adult, and will bring a positive attitude and effort level to any team with no distractions. I graduated with a Business Degree from Whittier College so I am very businesslike on the football field as well.

Q: What is your final pitch/sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

Benton: I am an experienced football player, eager and ready for the next level. I am confident I can be a productive football player at the next level as well as a productive teammate. I am very coachable and can handle criticism when given. I enjoy a challenge and am always striving to get better by grinding out good days.
