Maurece Herrion is on the path to greatness at the University of Dubuque. Going into his Senior season, the Running Back is only 499 yards away from being school’s career rushing leader.

Herrion’s credit to his success is his ball carrier vision. Being able to see holes when they are not there and getting “skinny” when squeezing through tight holes has helped Herrion record 2,555 yards and 28 Touchdowns in his collegiate career. Although Herrion is known as primarily a power back, he has surprising speed for his playing style. With his strength, he is able to break away from arm tacklers to accelerate through contact and deliver the hit on opposing defenders. As a down hill runner, he likes to compare himself to current and former NFL players like Jordan Howard and Maurice Jones-Drew.

In his Junior season, he recorded 168 carries for 977 yards and 6 touchdowns. This was his best season yet, after rushing for 751 and 827 yards in his Sophomore and Freshman years respectively. These statistics have earned him All-Conference honors in 2015 and 2016. The hopes and dreams this year will be to rush for a career high and go out on top of Dubuque record books as the Spartans All-Time leading rusher.

This offseason, Herrion has been staying focused and is working to improve the important techniques in his game. He has been focusing on his agility, explosiveness, and overall speed, while improving on his blocking and pass catching out the backfield. Herrion has completely forgot about his career best performance from last season and the fact that he is so close to the rushing record, and has put all his focus on this season to stay on path to perform and win games as a team.
