Name: Marquis Wimberly
School: Texas A&M-Commerce
Q: What goals did you accomplish heading into your final collegiate season?
I wanted to become a better leader for my team. One of my main goals was to lead the team in all receiving categories. Another goal was to be an all conference selection in a very talented LSC conference. Another was to help some of the players who’ve been at my school for 4 years become the all time winningest class and we accomplished that.
Q: What would your coaches say about the type of player you are?
My coaches would say I am a player who plays with a lot of emotion and passion for the game. They would also say I show up and work hard and leave it all on the field. A physically and mentally tough player.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?
When I am studying film I often like to criticize and focus on the negative things I do. I try to see if I take a false step or rub a route too short. Also check for small things like attacking a defensive back’s leverage and getting on their toes and making sure I am using my hands on releases or any time a defensive back tried to get hands on me.
Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?
I feel like what separates me the most is my knowledge of the position and being versatile. I can line up any where on the field and be fluent and extremely successful. Another thing that separates me is my attitude. I play with a mindset of I am the best and no one can stop me and there’s nothing you can do to convince me otherwise. I feel as though confidence in what you’re doing is key to being successful.
Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?
I have a training plan I am following and am going to be spending time at home training with some trainers who have helped me since I first started taking the sport seriously. I’m putting my best foot forward for Pro Day and will be training non stop multiple times a day and making sure I’m taking the proper precautions to keep my body healthy and in great shape. With my hard work and faith I know I’ll be playing professionally next season somewhere.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
One big strength I bring is consistency. I’ve had numerous first down catches and touchdowns in my career that have came on 3rd and 4th down in crucial moments at games. I can also bring an attitude. I want to win games that’s the whole objective in playing any sport. When you have a positive and team first attitude it can spread throughout the team. Another thing I can bring is leadership. Over the last two years I’ve been learning and getting better at not only holding myself accountable, but trying to make sure I hold teammates accountable and they do the same thing as well.
Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
Being in the NFL has been my dream since I was a child. Whoever gets me on a roster is getting a player who is going to work hard every day to become the best I can possibly be and when that happens I will try to exceed that. I will continue to work and never settle or get comfortable. Every time I step on the field whether it’s for practice or a game I am going to give 110% and leave no doubt. I would do anything to be able to this out this dream.
