Name: Marcus Porter
School: Fairmont State University
Position: Linebacker (Mike, Sam, or Will)
Q: What were some of your goals heading into your final collegiate season?
A goal of my last college season was to just go out and give my all every single play. I did not want to have any regrets if, God forbid, anything where to happen, it would be my last time playing the game, I would have been satisfied with my career.
Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?
If I had to choice 3 words i’d say:
Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?
At the moment, I am training with Colin Quay with Elite Athletic Training Services out of Rockville to prepare for my Pro Day on March 29th. I plan to continue to train after the 29th just to stay in shape for possible mini camp invitations.
Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?
I look for obvious tendencies at first, like if a Guard was light on his hands before a pull, or if his stance looks different when it is a pass play or a run. I look at situational tendencies, like for example, what plays they like to run on 1st and goal and 3rd and long. I also try to pick up on the RB’s tendencies by how he acts pre-snap when or when he is not getting the ball, is he playing with his gloves, is he leaning, or is he lazy when he isn’t getting the ball. All of those are tools, in my opinion, that you would need in a Linebacker.
Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?
My ability to change directions and get to the ball carrier. I love to pursue. I find a great angle and give 110% getting to the ball.
Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?
I am a leader on and off the field, I stand up for myself and the people around me, and I am never shy or afraid to let my voice be heard.
Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?
If you’re looking for a talented, hard nosed, Linebacker with athletic ability, who carries himself like a leader, who plays with a chip on his shoulder because he has been over looked before and comes from a small school, who puts football first and made it a priority the day he started, then I am your guy.
