Marcus Johnson: 2018 Draft Prospect Interview

Name: Marcus Johnson
School: Slippery Rock University
Position: Wide Receiver
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 190

Q: What were some of your goals heading into your final collegiate season?

Going into my Senior year, my biggest goal was to simply graduate. However, I did have a few numbers goals such as gaining at least 2,000 all-purpose yards and 20 touchdowns. Unfortunately, I did not reach those goals, but I did come close. I also had some training goals in regards to perfecting my routes, presses, etc., which I am currently still working on.

Q: If you could describe your style of play in 3 words, what would they be?

Confident, sharp, and agile.

Q: How will you train and prepare this offseason for the draft or other pro opportunities?

I will be training as if I was already in the pros, working out every day putting in extra work on and off the field, watching film, training to be a student of the game beforehand.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on or look for?

When I watch film, I am initially drawn to the opposing teams’ favorite coverage (that they play). Then, I study the DB to see what type of player he is and what I will be dealing with. I like to know if he is an aggressive player or a smooth laid-back type of player. I also tend to watch their foot work. I like know if he runs soft or hard and how fast he could recover.

Q: What separates you from the other players at your position?

My work ethic, great ball skills in the air, my competitiveness, and more than anything my desire to learn. I never want to become complacent or to always work on the same thing. I like to learn new ways to do old tricks.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

My work ethic; getting there before practice, staying after practice, doing whatever I have to do to make the team and myself better. Those are just a few of my strengths that will stand out on the field. My ability to adapt, the respect I have for myself and everyone around me, especially teammates, and things of that nature are all examples of ways I will stand out.

Q: What is your final pitch or sell to NFL and other pro league scouts?

If it’s raw talent a team is looking for, I’m your guy. If it’s hard work and dedication a team is looking for, I’m your guy. There are a lot of great athletes competing and hoping to enter the NFL this year, as there is every year, but there is only one that’s going to give his heart and soul and that is me. I’m the next best thing that you will see in a long time!
