Macarius Blount: 2023 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Macarius Blount
School: Alcorn State University
Position: DB/Nickel
Height: 6-0
Weight: 188

Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

A goal of mine that I had this season was to show that I was a lockdown defensive back. Even though I fell short of receiving post-season honors, I managed to lock down many talented receivers and not give up any TDs while in coverage.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

My coaches and teammates would say that I am a player who is reliable, resilient, always puts the team first, and wants to win.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

As a DB, we have to live in the film room. Leading up to games I like to look at receiver’s tendencies off the line as well as look for key points that hint what type of route concepts are coming. I also pay attention to what teams like to run depending on the down and distances to help put myself in a better position to make plays.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

What separates myself from other pro prospects is that I have good instincts, I can run with the speedy receivers and be physical with the bigger receivers. I have the ability to completely shut down a receiver for the entire game.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

My offseason plans consist of training in Arizona with Rube Oliver over at EliteU who trains many collegiate and pro athletes from around the country. I am also training with track coach Don Abrams who has also trained pro athletes and olympic runners. I plan on making sure to find ways to better myself every day.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

Some strengths and abilities that I can bring to a team are that I’m a quick learner, I do well with adversity, and I am always looking to be a better player/teammate.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

I am a player who can make an impact on both the defensive side of the ball as well as special teams. You’d be getting a player who loves the game, always wants to get better, and understands the work that’s required to be successful.
