Jeremie Dominique: 2022 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Jeremie Dominique
School:  University of Charleston
Position: S
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 205

What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

I wanted to lead our defense to be one of the best in the nation. We achieved that goal as we were near the top in most statistical categories. I set out to be an all conference player, which I achieved. And I also set out to be an all American.

Q: How do you think you took advantage of the extra year of eligibility to increase your chances of going pro?

Well since our season got canceled last year, that extra year became much needed because I knew I had to make it special to put myself in a good position for the next level.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

They would say I’m a dominant player who set the physical tone for our defense. My teammates and coaches would start by how versatile I am, the many different ways I can impact the game, and my tackling ability whether it’s hard hits or in the open field. They would also tell you about my ability to control games on the back end, eliminate big plays and definitely would say I’m a very smart player.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

I’m looking for tendencies from the teams we play, I try to identify what teams like to do in different situations in order to understand how they will try to attack our defense. That allows me to know what to expect in certain coverages and nullify what they try to do. I study a lot of film and I am able to identify many things that allow me to play faster because I read my keys and trust what I see since I’ve studied so much.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

My versatility and intelligence. I’m a hard hitting safety who can cover and play in space and that allows me to play many different roles depending on what a team needs from me. I can play as a deep coverage safety like I did most of this year because of my range, but I excel around the line of scrimmage and in the blitz game so I can be used as a down safety also. My ability to cover tight ends and slot receivers is something that will be very useful as the NFL is becoming more and more about match ups and finding guys who can be put in space and cover the different weapons quarterbacks now have at their disposal.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

I will go to the CGS game or possibly another all star game and then I will be working somewhere I will soon determine with my agent until pro day and hopefully combine.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

On the field I will bring a versatility that’s rare and an ability to be a playmaker in a multitude of roles. I also bring an ability to understand the defense very quickly, my football intelligence will be very valuable to a team. I also play with a different kind of violence and aggression. Off the field I will bring a hard worker who is all about football. My focus is on getting better everyday and on making an immediate positive impact on the culture of a team.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

If I were to put it as simple as I can, I am a very sure pick because there is no downside from drafting me. I can do anything you can ask from a safety on the field and off the field I am a great person to have in your building. I will work tirelessly to become the best player I can be and have a lasting impact on a franchise.
