Gene Coleman II: 2022 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Gene Coleman II
School: University of Delaware
Position: WR

Height: 5’11”
Weight: 190

What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

The goal for me is to always win every game and a championship, although we fell short of that, I was able to take myself over 2,000 all purpose yards for my career which was a nice achievement for me.

Q: How do you think you took advantage of the extra year of eligibility to increase your chances of going pro?

I think I was able to make a real name for myself in the spring seasons and garner attention going into this final year. It also gave me the chance to get my body right and be able to have a healthy season.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

I think my teammates and coaches would say I’m a great leader and somebody that tried to make everyone around them better as they got better. I thrive off competition and playing for a purpose so I feel I give that energy to those around me at all times.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

I think one of my main focuses was to get my ability to close the distance and create separation. I worked on that a lot this past season and although I believe I improved tremendously I still want more.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

Although I think the biggest parts of my game are my ability to run good routes as well as make big plays after the catch, I think what separates me is my accountability and reliability. In my career I’ve played in over 50 games, I’ve started more than half of those games. Along with that, I have over 130 catches with around 5 career drops.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

As we speak I’m training at EXOS in San Diego with many of the top prospects in this draft. Although I’m one of the smaller school guys here I think I’ve done a good job day in and day out proving that I belong here.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

Leadership and reliability are two things I hang my hat on. I think one thing about me is I’ll never be somebody I am not, I’m the same person every day and I love this game and have a high respect for it and anyone who plays it. I feel like this gives me the ability to adapt and give everything I have to not only the people I line up next to, but the game in itself.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

I’m going to be the most consistent and reliable receiver in this draft. I went my whole entire life betting on myself, and that will never change. Whoever picks me up will learn quickly what they are getting.
