Donovan Isom: 2020 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Donovan Isom
School: Texas Wesleyan/Utah/Southeastern Louisiana
Position: QB
Height: 6’4″
Weight: 252

Q: What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

I was injured the 4th game of the year and it cost my entire senior season, but I was glad to play with my brothers. I was on the watchlist as an All-American by FAF. In 2018 I got All-Conference.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

They would say I’m a leader on and off the field, a game changer, and a very team oriented guy.

Q: When you are studying film, what do you focus on to improve your game?

Well first I try to look at the scouting report to get a good idea of what and who I’m going against. Then when I turn on the film, I’ll have a good idea on what kind of schemes the defense runs. Most importantly I pay attention to the percentages on certain down and distances that defense likes to blitz and run certain types of coverages pertaining to that down and distance because it give me a better understanding on what to watch out for and I could audible a play when it comes to game time.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

I’m a grinder. I prepare for every situation. I believe I have one of the strongest arm in this draft class.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

I have been working with my QB coach, 10 year NFL veteran Tony Banks. He has a lot to offer and I’ve learned so much. I have been throwing to the receivers at the Michael Johnson Performance center in McKinney, TX and I have been throwing to coach David Robinson’s pro receiver group in North Texas. I have been working out with Cam Echols-Luper and Reese Thompson for speed and feet work. I also train at 1:9 in Argyle, TX. I have a great team around me that’s going to get me where I need to be.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

My leadership. My arm strength and my strength to stand in the pocket to deliver a pass. Also I’m mobile for a big guy so I can get yards if I need to. Off the field is my character.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL or any other pro leagues?

I believe that I can be one of the best QB’s to play this game. I may be raw in some areas but I’m definitely a guy you should take a shot on because I’ll work my tail off to get it right. I’m ready to prove that I can do this, I just need the opportunity.
