DeAndre’ Dowdell: 2022 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: DeAndre’ Dowdell
School: Edinboro University
Position: S/Nickel
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 190

What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

A goal I set for myself is to be better than I was the season before, to grow physically and mentally and to make a name for myself in my conference and I did that. I became bigger stronger faster and smarter and was named first team all conference for my final season which was a blessing!

Q: How do you think you took advantage of the extra year of eligibility to increase your chances of going pro?

I didn’t get the extra year back just received a year off with just practice but that was more time to mature and develop. I believe mentally a took a Great Leap Forward in that aspect of the game through the Covid year which is going to prove helpful in the long run as I prepare to play at the next level. I look at everything as a blessing, though I didn’t get the extra year the more time that I received I believe is the reason why I had the success I did my senior year as well.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

I believe they would say the type of player I am is very coachable and a fast learner. I pick up things very quickly, but not only do I pick them up I master them so I can help my teammates who do not pick up things as quickly. I believe that is a high quality trait my coaches and teammates would say I’m blessed with.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

When I am studying film, I look for many different things but the main things are formation and personnel. I look for the most popular plays in the formation and personnel grouping the opposing team uses the most. This helps me to play faster on the field because I am already knowing what is coming.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

I believe what separates me from other pro prospects is my I.Q. Like I stated before I pick up things very fast and I master them. I believe my knowledge of the game a long with the play making ability I was blessed with separates me from others. The game moves fast one step too slow one step in the wrong direction or any sort of hesitation you will be exposed. So if you’re not out there 100% confident in what you know and what you’re doing you will be left behind.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

My plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities is to attend these bowl games I have been invited to such as the Podyum bowl in Miami Florida to increase my exposure. Also I will be training in New York with my personal trainer Pete more who is not new to training professional athletes. He trained Breanna Stewart who is an American professional basketball player for the Seattle Storm, and Tyvon Branch who previously played safety in the NFL for the Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Arizona Cardinals.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

Some strengths and abilities I will bring to a team on and off the field is integrity and drive. I believe I have a different type of drive want and desire coming from a smaller school, it’s contagious. Integrity on and off the field a team will never have to worry about me putting myself or the team in jeopardy, I will carry myself and the institution well.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

My final pitch to the NFL and other pro leagues is, I’m a strong believer in actions speak louder than words, give me the chance to show you and prove to you that I belong at the next level. I promise it will be worth it.
