Damar’ren Mitchell: 2022 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Damar’ren Mitchell
School: Colorado Mesa University
Position: SS/FS/DB
Height: 6’0”
Weight: 188

What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

The goals I had set was first off the field be the best dad and person I can be for my family. On the field wanted to be team captain and I accomplished that, 10 tackles a game, 1 int, 1 pick 6 a game and 2PBUs. I accomplished the 10 tackles a game. So that got me to lead the team in tackles with 74 and 5.5 TFLS, 1 int and 4 PBUs. I was also named All-American.

Q: How do you think you took advantage of the extra year of eligibility to increase your chances of going pro?

I took advantage of my extra year by actually getting extra work in every day. Being in the best shape of my life ever. Staying healthy, getting in the training room everyday. Also watching more film on things I can improve on from previous seasons.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

I believe they will say I’m a smart, physical, and competitive player.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

The things I focus on during film to improve my game is knowing where and how everything fits, how the defensive line stunt is going, where are the linebackers fitting so I can fit off of them, and my technique in coverage, how are the receivers moving, what does the QB look at during pre snap.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

What separates me, I believe there are great safety prospects all over, but I think my ability to cover when it’s time to cover and me fitting the run. I can do both and I can roam the middle of the field play hash to hash, or hash to sideline.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

I have a few opportunities. Right now I’m starting back working out and conditioning to get ready for the CGS Senior Bowl game. After I will be training with my trainer to get stronger and ready for bench. Then I have another trainer to train me in speed to prepare for the 40 and other speed drills.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

I love this question. On the field I will bring toughness, smarts, physical play, knowing the play book, and staying involved in whatever they want me to do. Knowing any position they would like me to learn, just being diverse. Always having an open mind to whatever they feel is right. Be a student of the game and learn from veterans and coaches. Off the field, show them how great of a father I am, show them how my family comes first before any of my needs, how involved I would like to be in the community, give back and never forget who I am as a person as Damar’ren Mitchell.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

My final pitch would be don’t pass over a small school kid because sometimes they can be a diamond in the rough. I will learn from the best, I want to continue to learn the game of football, I want to take constructive criticism, I want to make mistakes and learn from them so when it’s all set and done I truly know I will give any organization my all, my 110 percent of hard work contributions to whatever it is they want me to do. Just don’t pass on Damar’ren Mitchell. I hope someone will take a chance on a small school kid with a dream of learning from the best athletes in the world and best coaches in the world from all over. Thank you.
