Colby Stevens: 2022 Pro Prospect Interview

Name: Colby Stevens
School: Midland University
Position: WR

Height: 6’0”
Weight: 185

What goals did you set and/or accomplish in your final collegiate season?

My goal that I set for my season was to have a 1500 yard senior season, and All-American Honors. I fell short of my goals, I don’t believe my potential was maximized at Midland due to injuries within our offense that affected our offensive game plan, particularly the passing game.

Q: How do you think you took advantage of the extra year of eligibility to increase your chances of going pro?

I broke my thumb to start the 2020 season, so the extra year of eligibility allowed me to come back an extra year and play slot receiver and develop my game more.

Q: What would your coaches and teammates say about the type of player you are?

My coaches and teammates will say I’m a very hard worker, clutch in big moments, and very technically sound in my route running. Team first guy.

Q: When you are studying film, what are the things you focus on to improve your game?

I focus on finding my triangle that I’ll be seeing at the L.O.S. Consisting of the Corner, Safety, and OLB. This allows me to know exactly what coverage the defense is in quickly. I make sure I know my opponents first moves, how they will jam, how fluid there feet can move and if they jump on first moves during routes.

Q: What separates you from the other pro prospects at your position?

My IQ of the game of football is what separates me the most from other pro prospects. I’m truly a WR with a QB IQ, when learning new offenses I want to know exactly what everyone on the offense is doing even the OL because offenses work as a system. I am an elite route runner, and can produce separation at any point on the field.

Q: What is your offseason plan to train and prepare for professional opportunities?

I plan on going back to Southern California to go train with my Performance Coach, Zach McClain with WideOutU Performance and his local Ventura County Pro’s.

Q: What kind of strengths and abilities will you bring to a team that will stand out both on and off the field?

I am very high energy and I have a high work ethic. I believe in being the first one in and last one off the field after practice field because I will stay after and catch more passes or run more routes.

Q: What is your final pitch to the NFL and any other pro leagues?

Take a chance on me and you won’t regret it. If you want a player like Cooper Kupp or Julian Edelman in your locker room sign me. All I need is an opportunity.
